Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) – New Scheme

The UK Government has introduced the new Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting scheme, SECR, to help simplify the existing energy schemes and reduce the administrative burden on large companies.

Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting - SECR energy reporting scheme SECR will begin from April 2019, when the current CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme closes.

In principle SECR will combine energy reporting for those participating in either the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme or in ESOS, the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme, into the new SECR reporting scheme.

SECR will apply to all quoted companies and large UK incorporated unquoted companies and large Limited Liability Partnerships (LLPs) (with at least 250 employees or annual turnover greater than £36m and annual balance sheet total greater than £18m. An updated version of the government's publication Environmental Reporting Guidelines: Including Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting Guidance was issued in March 2019to help businesses and organisations comply with the new SERC legislation.  The Guide can be downloaded from :
